Music Lessons

The Music Room teaches private and group music lessons to students of all ages and abilities. Young beginners through senior citizens can enjoy professional music lessons to discover, learn, and play piano, guitar, percussion and voice.

Here are a few of our frequently asked questions, please let us know if we can answer any others that you may have!
Q: How old does my child need to be to begin lessons?

A: For private piano, percussion, and voice lessons, our youngest students are typically around five years of age. For private guitar lessons, we suggest that the student be at least 7 years of age, as younger students may not possess the finger strength required to press down the strings.

Q: Do I need a piano at home to take piano lessons?

A: For the purpose of practicing, we recommend that piano students have either a piano or keyboard at home. However, a piano or keyboard is not required in order to begin taking lessons. If you wish to rent or purchase a keyboard to practice on, our staff will be able to assist you in finding the best instrument at the best price through one of our many contacts.

Q: How long does it take to learn an instrument?

A: There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn an instrument. With regular practice, a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long-term basis because they enjoy the lessons and the ability to be constantly honing their music skills. Just like anything, the more you practice, the better you become!
Q: I don’t have any musical background or ability; can I still help my child practice?

A: Absolutely! In fact, we recommend it! Even if you don’t have a musical background, our teachers can advise you on how to help your child practice at home. In addition, if you monitor and remind your child to practice their “homework,” they will tend to progress at a faster rate.
Q: How much do you charge?

A: We charge $95.00 per month for 30-minute weekly sessions, and $150.00 per month for 60-minute weekly sessions. There is also one-time fee of $25.00 for student registration.
Q: What if I miss a class?

A: We are usually able to offer make-up classes if we have at least a 24 hour notice that you will be missing your music lesson. Make up classes will be determined by your teacher’s schedule and availability. We CANNOT offer makeup classes for “no show” students.
Q: Where are you located?

A: We are located at 8349 1st Ave Leeds, AL 35094. We are the two-story brick building displaying The Music Room banner.
